Bon Iver Blissfulness

I just realized that I never dedicated a post to the wonderfulness that is Bon Iver live in concert.
Last Sunday I went with a ton of kids from my school to the Santa Barbara Bowl to see Justin Vernon and his amazingly talented band rock out. Actually I honestly had no expectations for his concert because, as many people make jokes about, his music is a bit more mellow, relaxing, and I even feared that the concert would be a little slow. Oh boy was I wrong. The entire evening was full of heavy beats (they had two full drum sets), crazy light shows, and Vernon's pure, wonderful voice. He was incredible vocally; I thought he even sounded better than on the recordings.

To kick it up a notch, the whole show corresponded to lights. They projected images, abstract mostly, onto these large, draping burlap sheets hanging from the rafters. Also surrounding each member of the band were these blue, bulbous lights coming up on poles that formed a sort of wave. Throughout the show the lights would flicker on and off or light up across from left to right and back again. It was magical.

Below are some pictures from the evening (excuse the poor quality, iPhones and darkness don't always mix well):
Burlap. Trashy or just Bon Iver?

Big crowd, big show. Good times.

These are the lights that I talked about. So cool.

I thought I might as well share the set list to give you a glimpse of what awesome music we heard:
-Perth
-Minnesota, WI
-Holocene
-Towers (1 of my favorites)
-Beach Baby
-Hinnom, TX
-Wash.
-Creature Fear
-Blood Bank (this was incredible, lights, vocals, drums, everything)
-Stacks (Justin stole all our hearts on this one; solo on stage with just an electric guitar)
-Flume
-Skinny Love
-Calgary
-Beth/Rest (perfect finale)

"Encore!" we all chanted, and so he gave us:
-Who Is It (Bjork Cover)
-For Emma, Forever Ago!

It was a perfect night indeed. Hope you all are having lovely weeks. Only 3 more days of schools, finals, for me until summer and NYC! Enjoy each day as it comes, friends.

-Max
