Musical Mayhem

If two words were used to describe me right about now, they would probably be "empty" and "full," ironically. Mentally I am empty. Physically I am drained. Emotionally, I'm pretty good. This past week has been hectic with extremely late nights, much later than I am used to and enjoy, and a weekend packed full of craziness, good craziness nonetheless. As for the other half of me right now, I am full of work, a lot on my plate, and a lot on my mind. I am filled to the brim with spirit, both with those around me and the Lord, and anticipation for what is to come.

Saturday was Spring Sing. An amusing tradition at my school, going on for 51 years now, where each dorm, both male and female, perform an 8 minute long skit, each with 4 popular songs with rewritten words, and create dialogue, characters, costumes, sets and props to compete for the ultimate prize: bragging rights (oh, and a pizza party, but come on, it's really about the year long chance to rub it in everyone else's faces...kindly). And yes, that is correct, my section took home the "sweepstakes" prize, also known as 1st place! It was stressful, insane, (cut-throat even?) and an absolute blast, but now I am going to hibernate for a few weeks to catch up on all that rest I missed preparing for it. Oh wait, I can't because of the multiple tests, quizzes and papers due in the next 4 weeks before school ends with finals. I'll power through it somehow and rejoice with the cheers of "summer!"

Besides the musical mayhem of Spring Sing, I was fortunate enough to attend a Mat Kearney concert at my school last night, just a short walk down to the gymnasium for a nice, acoustic set of some of his great music. I got 3rd row seats, the perfect spot for some awesome shots of him and the band.

I love you, Santa Barbara!
He was an amazing performer, pretty stinkin' hilarious, and insanely good at rapping, sort of like a West Coast meets New York singer/songwriter feel. Some Adele even made an appearance with a little "Chasing Pavements" thrown into his own song along with "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" and "Super Bass." Overall, a phenomenal, insane, jam-packed and unforgettable weekend. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that on top of all that I got to see my parents! What a treat.

Over and out,
Max
