Getaway.

The day after the Pilgramers meet up in Santa Monica, my mom and I drove to Laguna Beach for a day filled with art. We started at the famous Sawdust festival, a place where local artists and artisans showcase their goods, and let me tell you, they are good. There is so much talent in one place!

One of my favorite things there was watching the glass blower at work. He would create one piece about every 30 minutes. He first made a vase and then a glass fish. Just watching the precision it takes, and the relationship between him and his assistant in making sure it all ran smoothly was incredible. No wonder glass pieces cost so much. There is so much at stake when creating the pieces.

Another highlight of the time at the Sawdust festival was this singer. She did a set every half hour as well and was seriously talented. Her voice was a mix of Ingrid Michaelson and Zooey Deschanel, and it was so natural.

After leaving the Sawdust festival, my mom and I walked down into the town of Laguna and looked at some art stores as well as the beach. It was a really lovely day out.

Finally we ended the day with dinner at the Pageant of the Masters and saw the show starting around 8:30. No pictures from there unfortunately because photography is not permitted, but I would highly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested in art. It's incredible to see live. My favorite part was the behind the scenes example of how an entire piece is put together. If you ever get the chance to see it, go! Happy summer everyone, only a few weeks left!
